Meanwhile, in the real world, the Lacuna techs are messing up. Patrick is dating Clementine using Joel’s memories as cheat codes. Mary discovers she had an affair with her boss, Dr. Mierzwiak, and had her own memories erased. Chaos ensues, regret multiplies.
In the end, Joel and Clementine meet again — with no memory of their past relationship. But when they receive the tapes from Lacuna (sent by a guilty Mary), they listen to themselves describe all the ways they hurt each other. And yet… they choose to start over anyway.
